Search engine optimization has a lot of directions , you can choose any of them and go for it. While i suggest choosing multiple directions, do most of the techniques together for a better output , Keyword Targeting is the most necessary task and monitoring the performance of your targeted keywords is one of the basic thing you would need. Google monitor is one the best software i have ever used to check my keywords ranking in major search engines.

It allows you to add multiple sites my clicking the green + button. You can add multiple keywords for each site. To set the search depth ( number of results to search in the search engine) , u will have to go to options. When you are done click the search icon , and then it will contact the search engine and will show you the results. It will show the X(the depth you previously set , by default it is 10) top websites too.
